Wakefield Middle School Renovation Phase 1 & 2

Wakefield Middle School was originally built in the 1930’s
and had additions in 1969 and 1992, eventually closing in
2013. TUSD decided to re-open the school as an Advanced
Academic Coursework Campus. The intent of the design
was to modernize the school and create a connection
between the design of the physical environment and the
student academic engagement. This was accomplished by
using technology-rich platforms and flexible, collaborative
learning environments. The project had an accelerated need
to be complete in July for the school to be open in August for
the first time in seven years. The Durazo team was able to
use creative and strategic scheduling to successfully deliver
this project.  The first two phases included the renovation and
modernization of the Multi-Purpose Room, Library and
Science Wing Classrooms, STEM Classroom, Locker
Rooms, Teacher’s Lounge, Administration Area and the
Courtyard. The second phase of the project
included the renovation of eight classrooms,
the kitchen, computer lab, band room, visual
arts classroom, patio & restroom renovations.
